Step 1
Register Today....
After you have completed and returned the registration
form and sent it back to us by email, post or
fax, we will contact you within 24 hours to discuss
your locum needs, your preferences and the current
opportunities we have that may interest you. Alternatively
you can call us directat our London HQ on +44
(0) 20 7 247 7422 which is available 24 hours
a day, seven days a week 365 days a year.
In addition to your completed registration form
we also need the following documentation and please
note that we cannot start working for you without
it.
- CV's This should be completely up to date
and if there any gaps in your work history you
should make it clear what you have been up to
during that time whether it be travelling, studying
etc.If you haven't' the time to update your
CV simply fill in the gaps & we'll re-design
it for you.
- The full contact details for two current
referees who should of consultant level. Your
previous consultants secretaries are usually
happy to deal with our enquiries. A photocopy
of your passport photo page (including UK nationals)
and a photocopy of your visa if you require
one to work in the country you have selected.
If you require help with your visa let us know
& we can assist you with this.
- A copy of your GMC certificate if you require
work in the UK. Different registrations are
required for South Africa and Australia we have
all the information and expertise to assist
with these.
- Criminal Records Bureau Disclosures
All public and private organisations request that an Enhanced Disclosure be
obtained for all healthcare personnel from the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB)

Police Check
If you currently reside out of the UK, please forward your original Police Check.
- UK Pathology report including Rubella, Varicella
and Hepatitis B with titre levels which must
be a
printed copy not hand written or typed, as these
won't be accepted. UK hospitals insist on these
for all
locum doctors. You can obtain these from your
Occupational Health Department if you are working
in a hospital
currently. Or from your GP, in addition there
are 'pop in' health centres around the UK that
will provide you
with this information for a nominal fee. We
have details of these on request.
- Two passport photos. For your BSR I.D badge.
After all your paperwork is in order we can
then place you in the locum posts of your choice.

Step 2
You may decide that you just want to work a couple
of days or nights a week / a few weekends a month
or
something longer. We have locum placements of
both short and long term so the choice is really
up to you.
This is why letting us know when you are available
as far in advance as possible makes the process
easier
and faster. Once we know when you want to work
and where you want to be we will call you with
opportunities
as they arise. We'll also email you every few
days with the latest vacancies so that you can
peruse and select
as you wish. But do note that it's in the interest
of the hospital to fill their locum posts as soon
as possible
and it is a first come basis this is why it's
vital to keep in touch with us as often as possible
and furnish us
with as many ways to reach you as you can.

Step 3
So everything's in order, you selected an upcoming
locum post and because your information and paperwork
is tip-top the hospital have selected you over
the tens of other doctors put forward. Once everything
is confirmed we'll send you by email, fax or post
the following paperwork. Locum Handbook that contains
detailed information on BSR Locuming and codes
of practice etc.
Confirmation sheet containing:
The name and address of the hospital with a map
of how to get there
- Hours of working
- Travel information (trains, boats and planes)
- Exactly what to do and where to go when you
arrive at the hospital, who to report to and
if appropriate the keys for your accommodation
and even the sheets for your bed!
Time sheet. This must be signed by the supervising
full time colleague and returned to us post haste.
Declaration form. Which states you are fit to
work in compliance with the NHS Executive's code
of practice in the Appointment of Employment of
HCHS Locum Doctors. (Full details of the code
of practice are on the BSR web site and in your
'Locum Handbook' Assessment form. This must be
completed by your supervising full time colleague
and is used as a reference for further Locum posts.
(If there is nobody available then leave it
with medical staffing who will deal with it and
return it to us)
You'll need to take your GMC certificate and your
BSR I.D Badge with you to the hospital and if
you encounter any problems at all getting to,
or during your locum post just give us a call
on the 24-hour number +44 (0) 20 7247 7422.

Step 4
So the post went well and now its time to reap
the rewards. The time sheet you have which was
signed at the hospital should be sent to us, by
fax or post as soon as possible (by mid day on
a Tuesday), we can then drop your pay straight
into your bank account (you will have completed
bank or limited company details on the registration form) by Friday
of the same week.

Your next locum.
Final thought
You can increase your income further with BSR
if you know of a colleague or friend who is considering
locum work. If they join the BSR doctors you will
receive £150 when they complete their first 50 hours
for us, marvellous.
To use the site to its maximum capability requires
that you register with us. You will have your
own user ID which you create yourself to apply
for jobs, receive emails of jobs matching your
selection and keep track of all the places
that you have worked in.
